BCCP Incidental Take Permit
The Travis County mechanism that lets development proceed in golden-cheeked warbler habitat — subject to a seasonal clearing prohibition.
The Balcones Canyonlands Conservation Plan is a regional habitat conservation plan covering the golden-cheeked warbler and several karst invertebrate species in Travis County. Landowners developing in covered habitat can participate through a BCCP incidental take permit rather than pursuing individual federal authorization. Participation carries conditions, the most schedule-relevant being that clearing may not be conducted from 1 March through 31 August on properties containing golden-cheeked warbler habitat — the nesting season. Discovering that restriction in February is a very different project than discovering it in April.
